West Oxfordshire District Council kick starts Cogges Manor House development project with a £50,000 Community Grant

The £50,000 awarded by WODC’s Cabinet form part of the £1.325m Next Steps development programme led by Cogges Heritage Trust, which manages the Cogges site in Witney. This generous grant will be put towards Cogges’ Next Steps project which includes a serious of vital improvements to the much-loved heritage attraction and community hub, making it better for everyone.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has offered Cogges a grant of £900k towards plans, providing it can raise the rest - £425k. The grant from WODC is a huge boost to the campaign, which is now asking the public to pledge their support to help release the remaining funding it needs.

The Next Steps Cogges is planning, benefiting all its visitors, staff and volunteers, includes:

·         New displays and activities in the Manor House and across the site

·         Turning the Barley Barn into a warmer, weather-proofed space for schools and adult activities

·         An archaeological dig in the meadows

·         New loos at the entrance to the Farm

·         Improvements to the café and entrance courtyard

·         A new, special space for our amazing team of volunteers

Cogges is asking the Oxfordshire community to be part of the future of a site which has over 1,000 years of history. Donations from the public, however large or small, will not only help them reach their target, but such gifts also offer proof to the Heritage Lottery Fund and other funders of the community’s support.

Judy Niner Chair of the Trustees said: “We are hugely grateful to West Oxfordshire District Council for this generous grant and for the support shown to the Trust since we reopened the site in 2011. The Next Steps development programme will take place over the next 2 years and make Cogges even better for everyone”
