Learn to draw in the unique setting of Cogges - FULLY BOOKED

A six-week beginner's art course is running every Wednesday from 15th September to 20th October for five adults. Grab your spot whilst you can!

Sorry this course is now fully booked but we will be running similar courses in the near future so do keep a look out.

Set in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of Cogges, Claire Cross will take you through the basic drawing skills step-by-step using the objects, buildings and gardens as subjects in your exploration of drawing. With just 5 spaces available, Clare creates a friendly and encouraging atmosphere designed to help you get started.

Week 1: Pencil mark-making, drawing basic cubes and shapes. Getting used to the materials and seeing what they can do. Starting to learn to observe and draw accurately what you can see.

Week 2: Simple still-life with cups/jars from the kitchen and pantry. Looking at real objects and using line to draw and different marks to show contour and shadows.

Week 3: More complex still-life with chalk pastels. Introducing colour at this stage takes a bit of the fear out of it! Pastels are a great medium allowing plenty of layering over mistakes, and give a lovely vibrant strong colour.

Week 4: Negative shapes using either objects or dried flowers in a vase. Something from the garden or some of the dried seed heads or branches which are in vases around the house. Looking at the shapes between the solid objects helps place everything correctly.

Week 5: Perspective using photos of the barns and house. An introduction to perspective but using a Cogges theme, as there are so many great buildings to draw.

Week 6: Drawing the interior of the kitchens. Putting together all the skills to create a drawing of one of the kitchens.

This course gives you six 2-hour sessions for a total of £90 per person. Maximum of five people for this course. We are following Social Distancing and COVID advice at all times.
